Ingredient glossary
The words we use on labels, explained without the marketing.
- Bisglycinate
- A mineral bound to the amino acid glycine. Often described as a chelated form and commonly used where digestive comfort matters.
- CFU
- Colony forming units — the count of live micro-organisms in a live culture product, usually stated at time of manufacture.
- Curcuminoids
- The group of compounds used to standardise turmeric root extracts. A 95% extract contains 95% curcuminoids by weight.
- DHA / EPA
- Two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish and in algae. Authorised claims apply at specific daily intakes.
- Elemental dose
- The amount of the actual mineral in a serving, excluding the weight of the compound it is bound to.
- Hydrolysed
- Broken into smaller peptides, commonly used for collagen powders so they dissolve easily in drinks.
- Methylcobalamin
- An active form of vitamin B12 used in place of cyanocobalamin in some formulations.
- MK-7
- A long-chain form of vitamin K2, typically produced by fermentation of natto.
- NRV
- Nutrient Reference Value — the EU/UK labelling reference used to express a nutrient amount as a percentage.
- Standardised extract
- A botanical extract manufactured to contain a consistent percentage of a marker compound.
